Associate of Science Degree (AS)
The Associate of Science degree is designed for students who want an emphasis in natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, and pre-allied health and intend to transfer to four-year colleges and universities.
There are two paths for earning an Associate of Science degree: a Degree with Designation and the general Associate of Science (AS). Some AS degrees follow a specific course of study to comply with transfer guides, such as Allied Health, Dietetics, Environmental Science, and the Medical Professional Track.
Degrees with Designation allow you to graduate from a community college with a 60-credit Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree, enroll with junior status at a university, and complete the bachelor’s degree in a specific discipline for a total of 120 credits. Completing the Degree with Designation, as stated, ensures the guaranteed transfer of courses. The following pages detail the Degree with Designation options.
The general Associate of Science, which can be seen below, has prescribed general education courses and a variety of electives to allow you to tailor your degree. To maximize the transferability of your degree, consult with your destination institution, your academic advisor, and take Guaranteed Transfer Pathways (GT) courses. Note: Verify if your destination institution has a language requirement other than English, as that might influence the electives you choose. Completing the degree before transferring increases the transferability of your credits.
Students must earn a C or better for courses to transfer. Courses numbered below 1000 do not apply toward degrees. At least 15 of these credit hours, or 25% of total credits, must be earned from PPSC.
