Emergency Medical Services | Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Certificate
The primary focus of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This program will build on the basic knowledge and skills of an EMT necessary to provide patient care. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. Declaring the Emergency Medical Technician, Advanced Certificate as your major does not mean you’ve been officially admitted to the program yet. Admission to this program is selective and competitive. There are prerequisite classes and additional steps you’ll need to complete before you can apply for program entry to be considered for program acceptance.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician certificate program, students should be able to:
- Perform patient assessments through physical examination and patient interviews of health history and current illness
- Formulate and carry out a patient treatment plan based on assessment information
- Provide basic and selected advanced emergency care and transportation for a patient with special needs
- Calculate, prepare, and administer medication doses
