JOU 1005  Introduction to Mass Media: GT-SS3  3 Credits  
Places the mass media in a technological, historical, and cultural perspective, considering the validity, integrity, and influence of the evolving media in a democracy. This course is a Statewide Guaranteed Transfer course in the GT-SS3 category.
JOU 1006  Media News and Reporting  3 Credits  
Introduces newswriting, reporting and interviewing with an emphasis on clarity, accuracy, timeliness and fairness.
JOU 1021  Photojournalism  3 Credits  
Introduces visual storytelling through still imagery and may include audio, video, and other multimedia in the community. The course covers camera and equipment operation, editing, subject observation, media laws and policies, and professional ethics and standards.
JOU 2006  Intermediate Newswriting and Editing  3 Credits  
Presents how to gather information as an investigative reporter through research of local, state and federal government publications, how to cover police beat and city hall, how our courts and regulatory agencies function, and how to cover other challenges as the environment, religion, science, medical, public safety and business.
JOU 2015  Publications Production and Design  3 Credits  
Provides for students participation in the planning, writing, design and production processes of a non-newspaper publication.
JOU 2025  New Media  3 Credits  
Explores techniques and approaches in the latest delivery methods for new media journalism, ethics, technological advances, and media literacy.
JOU 2031  Introduction to Public Relations  3 Credits  
Focuses on public relations and its role for individuals, non-profit organizations, businesses, and governments. This course covers research methodologies, principles, and practices necessary to become a public relations practitioner.
JOU 2041  Feature and Magazine Writing  3 Credits  
Focuses on trade, consumer, and technical publications, manuscript development with emphasis on nonfiction, submission techniques, and trends affecting the marketing of manuscripts both in print and digital media.
JOU 2080  Internship  0-12 Credits
