Focuses on the historical, social, political, philosophical, cultural, and economic forces that shape the United States public school system. This course includes current issues of education reform, technology as it relates to education, and considerations related to becoming a teacher in the state of Colorado. The course addresses the educational theory and practices from Early Childhood Education (ECE) through secondary education.

Provides opportunities to explore teacher dispositions and skills through hands-on work experience under the immediate supervision of experienced personnel in an educational setting related to an educator program of study. Direct guidance is provided by the course instructor in educational settings from PreK – 12th grade.

Focuses on strategies for becoming effective teachers in diverse education settings within Early Childhood Education (ECE), K-12, or higher education. This course includes using learning objectives for assessment, instructional design, and lesson planning to create inclusive learning environments through the implementation of research-based best practices.

Covers the concepts and philosophy of mentoring and coaching new teachers in early childhood or K-12 educational settings. The course introduces the skills of a mentoring or coaching educator to cultivate and engage other adults in sustained and focused learning related to professional development and training.

Provides opportunities for the mentor teacher to practice beginning-level competencies in mentoring or coaching in early childhood or K - 12. This course emphasizes practice of behaviors and actions that demonstrate knowledge, comprehension, or application of mentoring or coaching strategies. This is a practicum-based course.

Focuses on all aspects in the role of working with and teaching English Language Learners (ELL). This course introduces language acquisition, pedagogy, and culture. Additional topics include the examination of historical, legal, and political issues related to educational programs for non-and limited-English speaking students, and associated resources for teaching ELL students.

Explores racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic groups to gain an understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion in communities and education. This course provides opportunities to contextualize multicultural perspectives in society and their impact on the education system.

Focuses on learners with exceptionalities with emphasis on factors relating to current practices, identification, characteristics, and educational adaptations in special education preschool to 21 (P-21). Course topics include issues related to mild disabilities, severe disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, and gifted and talented.

Explores common elements of Career and Technical Education philosophy and current practices. It details the philosophy of Career and Technical Education (CTE), the federal Carl D. Perkins legislation and related guidelines for CTE, the Colorado Technical Act, national and state regulatory agencies, the CCCS program approval process, enrollment management and advising strategies, relevant local and national issues, and quality assurance principles.

Explores integration of technology instruction into teaching practices used in preschool through postsecondary (P-21) educational settings for all curriculum areas of content. This course reviews a variety of technologies with an emphasis on increasing student learning and retention of knowledge. The course also explores combining technology with several instructional methodologies to promote professional teacher dispositions related to technology-rich teaching.

Provides faculty with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, develop, and deliver courses in a distance format. Focuses on assessment and evaluation methods and methods to incorporate interactive, collaborative and expanded learning activities.

Covers behavior management and instructional procedures used in diverse educational settings. The course explores evidence-based practices for inclusive classrooms and addresses federal and state legal procedures relevant to teachers, especially those working with students with disabilities or English language learners (ELL). This course has a field experience component.

Covers the foundational skills of reading development based on the science of reading and examines the relationship between cognitive, socio-cultural, linguistic, and motivational influences and educational outcomes. This course also explores how to teach phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, and fluency reading components. This course has a field experience component.

Covers techniques for fostering inclusive classrooms using diverse materials and engaging activities based on the Universal Design Learning (UDL) framework. This course has a field experience component.

Covers effective teaching methods within the classroom setting. This course includes sharing strategies to enhance digital citizenship skills essential for the 21st century and how to make informed citizenship choices. The course covers the development of robust curriculum design techniques, implementation of advanced assessment methods, and evaluation of skills that promote digital learning. ​

Covers vocabulary, comprehension, disciplinary literacy, including a comprehensive exploration of the developmental and instructional implications related to the science of reading instruction for diverse learners. The course also covers the principles of explicit and systematic reading instruction. This course has a field experience component.

Covers digital storytelling and how to convey compelling narratives through various digital platforms across the curriculum. This course includes ways to create impactful stories, blending visuals, audio, and text.

Examines person-centered transition planning and practices for individuals with disabilities in post-school and adult life. This course focuses on federal and state legislation for individuals with disabilities, examining the legal and instructional foundations of secondary transition planning.

A residency that includes the Colorado Teacher Quality Standards,and emphasizes reflection, developmental growth, skilled-based activities, culturally responsive instructional strategies, and competency-based learning. This course requires part-time in a classroom setting, implementing the Co-Teach model with a state-licensed certified, teacher under the guidance of a faculty supervisor.

Advances the implementation of the Colorado Teacher Quality Standards and teaching skills. This course requires assuming the lead role as the full-time teacher during the residency and enrollment in the community of practice seminar course. This is the second part of a year-long teacher prep clinical residency experience. Additional details are included in the teacher prep clinical residency handbook.

Covers approaches and methods used in teaching language arts in the elementary school (K-6). The course includes how to present techniques for teaching listening, oral language, writing, spelling, grammar, and handwriting that are developmentally appropriate and challenging. The course must be taken with Teacher Prep Clinical Residency I.

Covers how to evaluate, plan, and deliver math lessons for learners. The course will examine how to assess diverse learners’ math knowledge and skills through a student-centered inquiry approach. The course will introduce methods for teaching topics in numbers, operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis, and probability based on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) principles and standards. This course must be taken with Teacher Prep Clinical Residency I.

Supports and enhances the clinical teaching residency experience. This course creates a structured space to reflect on practical experiences, engage in professional discourse, and develop advanced teaching competencies. This course requires a professional e-portfolio that provides evidence of competency in the career field.

Covers developing inquiry-based lessons to investigate science and social studies using technology and a multidisciplinary approach. The course has a field experience component.

Assessment and feedback to meet the needs of learners across diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The course also applies informal classroom assessments, standardized tests, and developmental screenings. The course includes a field experience component. ​ ​
